Yes Virginia, there is Christmas in Florida When I first moved to Jacksonville from New Jersey, one of my biggest culture shocks was waking up to 80 degree weather on Christmas Day. Whether you celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa or the Winter Solstice, your first holiday season in Jacksonville will seem odd. As much as you want to get away from the snow and cold, you do miss the ambiance it provides at that time of the year. However, if your experience is anything like mine, by your second December, you’ll be looking forward to spending your holidays in the sun—whether on the beach, boating, fishing, biking or enjoying a wonderful outdoor dinner on your porch. I now feel that lights strung around a palm tree are perfectly normal, and a street corner Santa, dressed in shorts, is entitled to enjoy the sunshine, just like the rest of us. And, if you must have snow, you can always pop in a DVD of “White Christmas” and gather the family round the flat screen.
