Rants and raves
Enough is enough. I oppose any hike in the property taxes. We already pay more than enough in taxes ... The state just raised fees on driver's licenses, registrations and many other things by almost 100 percent. The federal government ... wants to tax employer-provided health care, which will raise our taxes, and if Obama gets his way we will be taxed for universal health care in the near future, and it goes on and on. Now you want to raise my property tax 12 percent. Are you people crazy? Where are we supposed to get the money to pay for all these fees and increased taxes? This must end.read more

Rain leads older driver to hit younger pedestrians
Two teenagers hit by a 92-year-old driver in Baker County are in the hospital in stable condition. The two boys — Malik Lee, 13, and James Nelson, 16 — were walking in the rain on County Road 139 around 8 o'clock Thursday evening when Sanderson resident Eugene Ford came upon them in his 1990 Oldsmobile. Unable to see them in the rain, the driver hit both boys before his car came to rest on the shoulder of the road. The pedestrians, both from Glen St. Mary, were taken to Shands Jacksonville with serious injuries.
