Neptune Beach

Neptune Beach, smallest of the beach communities, is located on a barrier island between the Atlantic Ocean on the east and the Intracoastal Waterway on the west. The city is just 2.5 square miles in area and is sandwiched between Atlantic Beach on the north and Jacksonville proper on the south.

The city was named in 1922 when Dan Wheeler built his own train station, named Neptune, which allowed the train to stop in the town so that he could commute to work. Neptune Beach was incorporated in 1931. Neptune Beach is home to Pete's Bar, purportedly the oldest continuously operating bar in Northeast Florida and noted for its inclusion in the John Grisham novel, The Brethren.

Neptune Beach has a limited number of single family homes. Persistent buyers may find a few fixer-uppers in the $200K range—but they will require a major overhaul.
