Northside Jacksonville is a rapidly growing residential area with a suburban feel. The Northside is home to a host of new residential subdivisions and commercial developments fueled by relatively affordable land and proximity to Jacksonville International Airport, with more than a dozen major airlines and a network of regional carriers providing 200 flights per day.
The neighborhood offers a wide variety of activities for everyone from 8 to 80. The 6,000 acre Timucuan Ecological and Historical Preserve, part of the National Park Service, borders the area’s eastern boundary. Other nearby outdoor recreational spots include Huguenot Memorial Park and Big and Little Talbot Islands.
Residents from Florida and Georgia flock to the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens, home to the River Valley Aviary, African Loop and a unique African garden called Savanna Blooms. The 21+ crowd enjoys the complimentary tour of the Budweiser Brewery, complete with free samples in the hospitality room. Water sports enthusiasts can swim, fish and boat along the St. Johns River.
New jobs are cropping up in the community as well; many of them resulting from the JAXPORT (Jacksonville Port Authority) expansion of the existing shipping port on the St. Johns River which will include new cargo container docks. JAXPORT and the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) are undertaking road improvements near the new facility to accommodate increased traffic volume related to the new construction.
